3D SEM of the ciliated airway epithelial cells as seen from the lumen: The Featured Image was submitted by Ben Patchell and Delbert Dorscheid, image acquired at the UBC BioImaging Facility, Dr. Elaine Humphrey. 3D SEM of the airway lumen. Tissue was obtained following lung resection surgery and processed using the Pelco BioWAVE.  Tissue was fixed in 2.5% glutaraldehyde and post fixed in 1% osmium tetroxide.  Tissue was dried in sequential ethanol washes and dried using HMDS.  Images were obtained in the Hitachi S4700 SEM at 0.8 kV and a WD of 12.0mm and secondary electrons were detected using both the low and the high detectors.   Two images of the same area were taken with a 6o tilt.
