05/20/2004 – The
Featured Image was submitted by Dr. Honglin Luo and depicts a
florescent image of tumor cells stained for beta-catenin (an
important cellular protein involving cell survival) (red), cell
skeleton protein (green) and nuclei (blue). Cells were pretreated
with a drug which inhibits cell signaling resulting in an increased
protein expression of beta-catenin, and then infected with coxsackievirus.
This picture shows that inhibitor treatment leads to nuclear
translocation of beta-catenin, which is associated with decreased
virus-induced cell death.
