The iCAPTURE Centre Schedule of Seminars and Events

Every week a calendar is released for events and seminars that are occurring with the St. Paul's Hospital and iCAPTURE Centre facilities. Staff and students alike are encouraged to attend the events that you will read about below. For an updated list of events occurring in the iCAPTURE Centre please click on the link below. The following types of activities are included:

  • Research in Progress seminars (every Monday at 9:00am). Graduate students or post-doctoral fellows, present their "research in progress" to other iCAPTURE researchers. The idea behind these seminars is for a critical, but supportive audience to give feedback at the conceptual or analytic stage of the trainees' research program.
  • iCAPTURE Centre Seminar series. This session involves the invitation of experts in specific fields from the UBC campus and collaborating institutions to give state-of-the-art talks. These sessions are designed to encourage collaboration between groups at the various UBC campuses (Children's and Women's, Vancouver Hospital and St Paul's Hospital) and at collaborating institutions and to bring students, post-doctoral fellows and faculty up-to-date on the latest development in the particular area of expertise of the speaker.
  • Technology Series. As the iCAPTURE Centre revolves around technically advanced topics and instrumentation; vendors are often on site to demonstrate, update, and teach short courses on and about their area of expertise. For example, Carsen Group has provided short courses on ImagePro software. We are often asked to host Vendor Information sessions on new equipment. The schedule of events will highlight these upcoming events at the iCAPTURE Centre.

  • Professional Development Series. In collaboration with the UBC Facility of Medicine, we have organized Career Day for graduate students and post-doctoral fellows as well as post-doctoral fellows specific half day workshops. There are also numerous one hour and half day workshops at the iCAPTURE Centre; includes topics such as: negotiating skills, grant writing, lab management, poster and oral presentation skills, research ethics, statistics and more.

  • Short courses and workshops. Short courses based on our equipment/ technology platforms and/or experimental design and expertise, will be offered to technicians, graduate students, post-doctoral fellows and faculty members at UBC sites and collaborating institutions. If you are interested in continuing education on our available technology please contact Jacqui Brinkman.

      • iCAPTURE's annual High School Teacher Gene/Environment Workshop:

The objective of this workshop is to provide teachers with accurate and current scientific information that they can teach in their classrooms through the interaction with iCAPTURE scientists who are studying the role of genetics in heart and lung disease. Click here for more information about this year's workshop.
