The Respiratory Clinical Research Laboratory conducts clinical drug trials on new respiratory medications. Before a medication is marketed it must pass stringent testing to assure efficacy, safety and optimal dosage regiments. Clinical trials provide this information using double-blind, randomized and placebo controlled procedures.

Recruited volunteers fulfill specific criteria concerning their lung disease, medication and health in general. Spirometry, methacholine challenge tests, sputum induction, ECG’s, lab tests and patient recorded symptoms are the measurements most often used to evaluate the medication.
