Over seventeen million dollars were awarded to allow the iCAPTURE Centre
to acquire the enabling infrastructure and key technologies that will
move our investigative capabilities to an entirely new level of excellence.
Funds are available from the Canada
Foundation for Innovation (40% of the total cost - $6.5 million)
and application is in to the British Columbia Knowledge Development
Fund (40% of the total cost ($6.5 million). The technology vendors are
funding 7% in in-kind donations ($1.2 million), and the remaining 13%
($2.1 million) will be funded by the UBC
Blusson Foundation. Matching funds are also committed from the Heart
and Stroke Foundation of BC and Yukon and the BC
Lung Association for $400,000 each.
This funding will enable us to purchase state-of-the-art laboratory
instruments and equipment required to carry forth the research mission
of the Centre and of Providence Health Care-University of British Columbia.
St. Paul's Hospital - Providence Health Care strategic planning processes
has identified heart and lung research as two of its top research priorities.
To support this initiative, St. Paul's Hospital - Providence Health
Care has committed 10,000 sq ft of additional laboratory space and 10,000
sq ft of office / educational space. They have also generously committed
$1.5 million per year in ongoing personnel costs to ensure effective
operation of iCAPTURE.
